Bible Study Resumes Wednesdays

The ELCA has recently launched a new initiative called "Book of Faith: Lutherans Read the Bible." The goal is to "help enhance our individual and collective knowledge of the Bible and its teaching, and to achieve a greater fluency in the first language of faith, the Holy Scriptures."  Join us Wednesday evenings at 7:30pm for conversation, prayer & contemplation as we study this resource together.

Thanksgiving Adopt a Family -

We will be sponsoring a family from ISS for Thanksgiving again this year. The sign-up sheet to donate items for Thanksgiving is on the bulletin board and all donations will need to be at the church by Sunday, November 16.

A Trip to Amish Country
On Saturday November 15, members of Grace will be carpooling north to visit several of the Amish communities. Escape to the slower pace and simple life of these brothers in faith. There will be opportunities for shopping, dining, strolling, and taking in the beauty of the countryside.  Exact destinations will be based on the preferences of those going. See Sandy Bell for more information.

Community Thanksgiving Dinner

The United Methodist Church of Centerburg is again sponsoring their annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner and they have invited Grace to participate. The community meal will be served from 1:00-3:00pm on Sunday November 16 at the Centerburg Elementary cafeteria. We are invited to both share in the meal, and to volunteer help in food donations, preparation, serving, and delivering meals to the homebound. This is an excellent opportunity to give thanks to God by sharing our blessings with others in our community. To volunteer, contact Sandy.

Special Advent Activities

Advent begins November 30th. This time leading up to Christmas is always an exciting season at Grace. Not only does the Sunday service reflect the Advent season, but also these special events:

Mid-week services — Wednesdays at 7:30. The theme is “ Flames for the Faithful” which focuses on the traditions of the Advent wreath.  (Dec. 3, 10, and 17.)

Hanging of the Greens— lunch will be provided, then we will put up the Christmas tree and adorn the church with seasonal decorations. (Nov. 30)

Advent Craft Project — we will create special Christmas gifts that we give to the folks we visit during caroling. (Dec 7)

“A Gift from God” — This is a special Advent program we’re doing in place of our normal Sunday service. It is a fun and engaging worship perfect for families and guests. It will also feature Christmas songs done by the children. (Dec. 14)

Christmas Caroling and Gift Exchange — first we’ll visit Centerburg Place and the Heartland Nursing Home, singing tidings of joy and good will. Afterward we’ll return to Grace for some snacks and our traditional gift exchange. Can anyone top the Christmas boxer shorts Lauren received last year? (Dec. 21)

Christmas Eve Service — The big day is almost here. Prepare your hearts for the celebration of the birth of Christ by worshipping with us this evening. (Dec. 24)

We hope you’ll consider preparing for Christmas with us!
